April 2009 Meeting Announcement

Hello again, FMDiSC members and FileMaker enthusiasts!

Our next meeting for FileMaker Developers in Southern California (FMDiSC) will be this Friday, April 10th, from 9:30AM to 1:00PM.  If you've never been to one of our meetings before, just feel free to show up -- no need to RSVP.  We'd love to see you at the meeting!  New members are always welcome!

Our first presentation ALWAYS starts PROMPTLY at 10:00 AM SHARP, so please do not come late or you will MISS something very important!  To accommodate for this, we'll be doing some quick housekeeping announcements at 9:50am and then we'll immediately dive into our first presentation PROMPTLY at 10:00am SHARP.

This month, we are continuing our analysis of FileMaker 10 because we STILL haven't had enough time to cover all the new features of this wonderful new release! Plus, we have some other treats in store for you as well.

Anton Anderson of Productivity Consulting will be presenting his SubSummary Report Extravaganza, where Anton will highlight the new "live reporting" subsummary features in FileMaker 10. This one new feature alone will make you rethink all the reports you've ever created in older versions of FileMaker! You will not want to miss Anton's excellent presentation on this topic.

Debbie Cohen-Sitt of The Database Factory will then take the stage as she discusses the new Saved Finds feature of FileMaker 10. Debbie will show us how to smartly use this feature, along with some tips & tricks for making "Saved Finds" work more effectively than you could imagine... and some gotchas to be aware of.

Bill Krauss of Angel City Data will be presenting a case study on a FileMaker music licensing system with iTunes integration. Bill Krauss will talk about taking a client from a simple request ("Can you help us track songs and CDs?") to a full-blown production and financial tracking and invoicing system, complete with iTunes integration.

Tips & Tricks, part 1: Joe Gold will be showing off a pong game that he created with the hottest new gaming platform of the 21st Century -- FileMaker Pro! This one is pretty impressive, folks... a fully working game of pong developed solely in FileMaker Pro. Anyone want to create Pac Man in FileMaker for the next meeting?

- Tips & Tricks, part 2: Your chance to show off a FileMaker tip or trick!
At the end of the meeting, time permitting, we will have an "open mike" section where you can show off your own tips & tricks. If you'd like to share any tips, techniques, or cool ideas that you have developed, this is your chance! If you have a sample file that you'd like to show, bring it on a USB flash drive and try to keep your presentation under 5 minutes in length!

- And, we will continue our extended socializing time during the break, for all of your socializing & networking needs!

Here is our tentative schedule of events (all times subject to change):
